For the anglers that have visited here in April, you already know the fishing is excellent during this month. Let’s take a look at what we will be fishing for during the start of spring break in Nuevo Vallarta. The marlin will be here and the larger schools will be mostly offshore. The Blue marlin moves into our fishing grounds around this time of the year. We have more striped marlin than blue marlin. Some black marlin but this depends on the water temperature. The striped marlin is like the cooler water so we always keep an eye on the water temperatures and where the larger baits are schooling. There will be some mahi-mahi action mixed with the marlin action and always fun to catch. The dorados as they are called here in Mexico are some of the best eating you can find in the world.

Around the reefs and a few spots we have marked here on our GPS there will be the amberjack, grouper, snapper, bottom fish, and the always schooling yellowtail. We love to try jigging, use cut bait, lures, and the all-time favorite live baiting on these fantastic fishing places here close to Nuevo Vallarta. There are few days that the fish will not bite here at these famous places we fish in April. The only problem we encounter is when we have strong currents. In April the sea is usually flat with no weather issues. One of the frequent questions I get every day is “is it going to be rough out there? ” April brings lots of sunshine, flat seas, and good fishing.

The entire bay of Nuevo Vallarta has great fishing from the reefs, the south side of the bay up to the north side of the bay around the La Cruz Area. There is also incredible bay fishing north close to Punta Mita.

The fishing conditions will be perfect. The weather is one of the best factors. The fishing is second to none. Our spring fishing is hot compared to anywhere in the world. All bucket list fish will be here or close to Nuevo Vallarta Mexico. Looking to catch a sailfish, marlin, mahi-mahi, aka Dorado, tuna, or snapper. Well, you found the right spot in Mexico and the perfect time of the year to be fishing with us on one of our fishing vessels. We offer bay boats of 28 feet. Meduim size sportfishers 32 feet. What makes the fishing so good? It has to do with the bait that arrives with the warming of the water here in our beautiful bay. With temperatures ranging from 72 degrees up to 79 degrees, this makes for perfect fishing conditions. The locals and deep-sea fishing anglers all love to be here in the month of March. We have bay fishing to hardcore offshore fishing for the huge tuna and marlin. One of the frequent questions I receive daily is how many hours does it take to get on of these pelagic fish I have on my bucket list? The answer is I can guess from my 30 years of experience fishing here and I’m usually right, but I always tell folks that our boats are put every day and this gives us a huge advantage over most companies here. Coupled with the Terrifin app we use that supplies us with water temperatures (most pelagic fish have a favorite temperature to feed in) water clarity (fish have to be able to see our lures and baits) chlorophyll beaks (this is where warmer water meets with cooler water and attracts fish in these areas) and of course general weather conditions (like wind and outside temperature).

The Nuevo Vallarta fishing report starts off with some major changes this month. First is the cooling weather and some water temperature changes In the bay and offshore. We had incredible fishing temperatures in November to fish off of. The temperatures were around 78 degrees. Since the temperatures had dropped a few degrees inshore and offshore fishing. We have had to rethink our fishing places and plans. Such as switching lures, running different baits, and changing some of the fishing spots we like in the winter months. The water never gets really cold here in the Bay of Nuevo Vallarta or offshore. But it does have an effect on our fishing and the way that we fish during the winter months. Let’s take a look at some inshore action first. fishing in Nuevo Vallarta December

For the inshore fishing, there will still be mahi-mahi around, yellowtail, roosterfish, Spanish mackerel, snapper and the fantastic eating California Bonita. The best way to catch these is on the troll. If we are lucky enough, we find them schooling and can use some pitch baits or different jigs we have for casting. We will start seeing large schools of the yellowtail here and they are usually caught on live bait. If you catch them surfacing here on top of the water on some of the bait balls that are moving in for the winter months they’ll bite on anything. We should start seeing some more roosterfish with some snapper over on the South Shore in a couple of coves where we catch fish in the winter months. This is typically done with live bait or some pitch baits. It’s not uncommon this time of the year to start seeing schools of snapper inside the Bay and just offshore. If you’re looking for a fun time this winter and don’t wanna spend all day on a boat choose one of our four or six-hour trips and you’ll have the time of your life here in Nuevo Vallarta. Around Christmas time everyone thinks folks are around the fireplace with grandma, but I guarantee you a lot of them are gonna be down here on the beach with us or offshore fishing.

The offshore fishing will change as the water cools down some of the larger marlin and tunas will move further offshore. They will be replaced by the striped Marlin. These fish love the cooler water and of course, the tuna we catch will be working around on the thermoclines. You can find tuna schooling sometimes, but not as much as in the Fall. One of our favorite trips is 8 hours going out for a big game fish like sailfish, striped Marlin, and Mahi- Mahi. If the action is not there we can always revert back and come into some of the places that are producing great action inside the Bay and catch a boatload of fish for our clients.

During the winter months, the best type of fishing offshore is trolling using skip baits with some high-speed lures along with sewn-up baits like goggle eye or mullet. When we know there’s a large concentration of Marlin or tuna around, we’d love to fish with the 5 to 10 lbs live baits. Three rules of fishing offshore live bait, live bait, and of course, live bait.

As I said inside the Bay the water had dropped a little bit cooler so you’re looking at some 75 to 76 deg. Here inside the bay in most places. Offshore fishing is seeing a little warmer water at 78 deg. Most places have fantastic water clarity. The wind is laid down and is pretty flat for most of the trips that we’ve been doing. When you are in Nuevo Vallarta during the month of March there are 4 things you’ll surely find. The 1st is gonna be some of the friendliest people in the world, also you will notice have incredible weather during March with cool afternoon breezes on our amazing beaches, many fun activities for spring break, and some of the best fishing in the world. nuevo vallarta fishing for dorados
During the month of March, we’ll see lot of changes in our fishing grounds and techniques. We’ll start to see the water get hot which is a good thing for the larger marlin, blues, and blacks. We’ll see numerous schools of different bait entering the Bay and just offshore. This is a fantastic fishing factor here in Nuevo Vallarta. With so much bait around the bay and so many fishing options, you will not know which fishing trip to choose. We have it all from bay fishing, overnight fishing, bottom fishing. Deep-sea fishing, offshore fishing, and reef fishing.
I always like to get people to let me know what they want to fish for when coming to Nuevo Vallarta this time of the year. A lot of people don’t realize March is the best month for rooster fishing here in Vallarta. You will love taking one of our 8-hour fishing trips during this time of the year. With so many coastlines here have incredible Bay fishing along with all the other options I have listed above. And we also have incredible offshore fishing. One of my favorite trips is the 8-hour trip, where will fish inside the Bay and then blast offshore looking for some sailfish and marlin. If the marlin action is not so crazy Marlin then we will come back and hit some of those reefs for snapper, amberjack, and the most sought-after roosterfish. One of the surprising things that you’ll find is that these bait balls can pop up anywhere at any time during the month of March. This happens quite often in the bay of Puerto Vallarta and offshore. As you’ve seen before in my fishing reports we have a lot of factors. We look for many fishing factors, but the number one factor you will find is the bait movement. If you find the bait you will differently find the fish. The fish love the right temperature water, clarity, but last but not least is the bait. Everything gotta eaten and so do the fish. So if you’re on the bait You’re on the fish. So the trick is to be on the bait when you got the right tide either coming in or going out. You will surely be catching fish in Nuevo Vallarta Mexico.

The fishing for spring break in the Nuevo Vallarta it’s going to be fun filled action for those wanting to fish this year for 2020. There will to be a lot of people from all over different colleges , different countries, local people and all kind of international travelers. It’s going to be one fun time with a party atmosphere, beach goers, fishermen, students and much more action. Some of the main fish that we’re going to be targeting for spring break 2020 are going to be sailfish, Marlin, mahi mahi, and roosterfish. The tuna will be here offshore in good numbers. Inshore fishing

When’s spring break rolls around is about the same time all the bait moves in to the bay and we have some incredible fishing here for all different types of fish. There will be a lot of good bay fishing here in the Nuevo Vallarta for folks are coming down with their families. We offer these bay fishing trips for people that don’t want to spend all day on a boat but or just want to go out and have fun and catch some fish. Offshore reports

There’s also fantastic action for some of our offshore fishing. These deep sea fishing trips is where we’re going to be going after some of the big game. ON most days fishing offshore consists of 8 hours of fishing or more. Last year during spring break we had some incredible fishing and I believe this year will be even better. The water temperatures have already moved up a few degrees in some of our favorite fishing spots offshore.

Nuevo Vallarta fishing report February 2020. When February rolls around here in the Nuevo Vallarta everyone’s happy as we have so much going on from BBQ cook-offs, chili cook-off, all kinds of shows and some of the best fishing on the planet. Does not hurt that the whales are playing here in our beautiful bay with some of the best winter weather you will find any where in the world.

Inshore action

Here in Vallarta It seems like when on particular fishing cools off another one is just as hot as can be. This happens here several times a year. We have had some great in inshore water conditions. The water temps are up and down but have never reached the point where you could say it was cold. This year in February we had some cool water here that usually turns off some of the inshore fishing but somebody forgot to tell all these fish we’ve been catching. We’ve been landing lots of Yellowtail, Spanish mackerel, Snapper, roosterfish sailfish, and many mahi-mahi. To put it bluntly inshore fishing it’s pretty much off the charts. If you’re looking for some great action, perfect weather and all the fishing action you can handle on a short trip then Nuevo Vallarta fishing has got you covered.

Whale Watching

When the water conditions are just right for fishing around 75 to 80 degrees it keeps the rods bent and some of the best whale watching anywhere. I’ve never heard one person complain about watching these great majestic creatures breaching, tail slapping and doing all kinds of aerobatic breaches. I’ve lived here for 35 years and never get tired watching them play here in our bay. Offshore report

If you’re thinking about coming down here to Nuevo Vallarta and want information about a offshore fishing trip February please see what will be biting and where we have been catching these fish. Hard to believe that one spot has so many different options and so many different places to fish. In February we still use famous fallback places like the El Morro ( 8 hr. trip) El Cortbetena ( 10 hr. trip ) with one big exception. These are the months coming up where we start to see all kinds of bait movement on the north shore out past Punta Mita. These fishing adventures are 8 hrs. are action packed. The offshore fishing past the Marietas Islands can produce all kinds of fish sailfish, mahi-mahi, roosterfish, tuna and marlin in February. These types of deep sea fish charters are 8 hrs. and often catch multiple kinds of pelagic fish.

The month of February and March is when the bait fish start to move in close to shore and will hold he fish right along the coast. This produces some of the best fishing of the year. I’ve been out offshore fishing and seeing the water completely light up with fish boiling on the water. As I said before all kinds of fish like sailfish all the way up to yellowfin tuna. When the conditions are right fishing February Nuevo Vallarta has all kinds of benefits. We have the shorter run, more abundance of fish and all different kinds of species to fish for.
